HETAS

HETAS are the official body recognised by the government to approve biomass and solid fuel, appliances, services and fuels for the UK market. This includes registering solid fuel installers via their competent persons scheme and working closely with solid fuel stove retailers who register for their approved retailer scheme.

HETAS registered retailer

HETAS publish an annual guide which contains a list of HETAS approved appliances, Chimneys and associated equipment that have been submitted for testing and approval by HETAS. Consumers can also access this information via the HETAS website by using their easy search tool ‘find an appliance’. Purchasing an appliance that has been HETAS approved means you can be assured the appliance meets UK building regulations for installation and use. HETAS approved fuels undergo testing so that the consumer can be assured that the fuels being burnt are both safe and efficient for the type of appliance they have.

HETAS Registered Installer

HETAS runs a competent persons scheme, where solid fuel installation engineers can apply to become registered under HETAS and after completing training to UKAS standard are permitted to complete and certify their own installations without the need to notify the local authority. The scheme also provides ongoing training and updates to ensure the engineers are kept up to date with the latest amendments and products available. You can find your local HETAS registered installer by using the handy ‘find installer’ tool. Just pop in your postcode and HETAS will provide a list of engineers in your area and the types of job they are qualified to carry out under their registration. There are various ways in which solid fuel s can be installed so it is important to make sure your chosen engineer can provide the service you need. HETAS registered engineers can register to provide the following types of services. Installation of biomass boiler systems, dry appliances, appliances with boilers, hot water and heating systems along with re-lining chimneys.

HETAS registered retailers have at least one member of staff who has been HETAS trained on site to assist customers with an queries and advise on safe installation and appliances. HETAS showrooms are required to list a number of appliance facts with the appliances they display so that you can make an easy comparison between different appliances, they also have a number of HETAS advice leaflets on site for you to take away.
